PIRATES OF PLASTIC

Pyrmont Heritage Boating Club environmental warriors the Pirates of Plastic continue every week to pick up plastic from our waterways.  A regular route has become known as the Bays Precinct, west of Pyrmont extending to Annandale.  Pictured below are the Pirates at Johnstone Bay Pyrmont at the end of Harris Street.

The pirates pick up plastic from the water because it is one of the ten best things we can do for our environment.  They learn and practice boat handling skills and then sail home to Blackwattle Bay where they deposit  their plastic bounty for the Maritime Enviro Services to collect.

VIKING SHIP REPAIRS

Winter days have seen the beginning of making repairs to the Aegir Viking ship.  Two boatbuilders have been busy repairing the 32 ribs of the ship.  Orion and Toby will replace 32 ribs in the ship in a first step of the process to make the Aegir a seaworthy vessel for sailing in the future.

Le Petit Festival

Big thanks from PHBC to all volunteers from Le Petit Bateau Gallery.  The fundraiser festival was a great success although a last minute change of venue was necessary.
We will do this again as everyone had a great time at the Addison Rd Community Centre venue.  The jumping ship was a big hit with the kids and some adults as well.  The music was brilliant and varied and the installations amazing.  Great work to all the lovely people who made it happen.

NORWEGIAN ROYALS VISIT

An invitation to the Norwegian Royal visit in Sydney of King Harold V and Queen Sonja presented an opportunity for the club to make cultural connections. The opportunity to connect with our Gokstadt Viking ship replica ‘Aegir’ roots was accepted and a pleasant evening followed meeting Norwegian expats.

At the reception to celebrate Australian Norwegian relations held at MCA Sydney Queen Sonja presented her photographic exhibition, Inspirational Encounters in Norway. Music was performed live by Haykon Kornstad.

Our Treasurer Michael Bolton-Hall met the Kings Brigadier. Brigadier Nils Petter Granholt is also the for’dhand for King Harold on his many sailing adventures. The Brigadier is also from the same area in Norway where the original Gokstadt ship was found. He was excited to realize one of only three Gokstadt replicas is here in Sydney.

The Brigadier said he wanted to keep in touch and start to build a relationship with our Norwegian counterparts.
